Wiper Patriotic Front leaders moved swiftly on 30 July 2026 to kill circulating claims that party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka had visited State House and held talks with President William Ruto. Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua, speaking for the party, declared the reports “fake news,” “deep fake,” “misinformation and disinformation.”

“For the record, my party leader has not had any such meeting with the President. The two have not had any talks whatsoever about working together,” Wambua stated. He revealed he personally accompanied Kalonzo that day to a meeting with senior media editors in a Nairobi hotel and later at the leader’s residence. “If President Ruto met a man called Kalonzo at State House or wherever, then that man was not the WPF leader.”


The viral clips, which show Kalonzo at State House, are confirmed as old footage from the 4 March 2024 NADCO report presentation. The official Wiper account reinforced the message, accusing “the propaganda machine” of being “in overdrive” with fabricated stories claiming “Kalonzo is at State House.”

Wambua directly blamed the Ruto administration for pushing the false narrative, saying the government views Kalonzo as a major threat to its 2027 re-election prospects and is using disinformation to destabilize the United Alternative Government. On social media, government bloggers and online operatives have amplified the claims, recirculating the outdated videos and alleging Kalonzo is ready to abandon opposition ranks for a place in what critics call the rogue government—precisely to tarnish his name, erode his influence among Kamba voters, and paint him as a sell-out ahead of the next election.

Kalonzo’s camp insists he remains firmly committed to the opposition. The episode underscores a familiar pattern: recycled images deployed to manufacture political damage rather than report reality.
