The Orange Democratic Movement has come out strongly against the use of hired goons to intimidate or block political leaders from accessing Lugari Constituency. The party’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, made it clear that such acts of violence and intimidation have no place in Kenya’s democratic space. He emphasised that leaders from all political parties should be allowed to move freely and engage with citizens without facing threats or obstruction.

Etale noted that the use of goons to create fear among leaders undermines the democratic rights of both politicians and the people they seek to serve. He stressed that every elected or aspiring leader has the constitutional right to visit any constituency in the country to carry out their political activities. The party views these acts of intimidation as unacceptable and has called on security agencies to take firm action against those involved in such behaviour.

The condemnation comes amid heightened political activity in several parts of the country following recent by-elections. ODM leaders have expressed concern that the deployment of goons is being used as a tool to suppress political competition and silence opposing voices. The party has urged the government to ensure that all leaders can operate in a safe and secure environment regardless of their political affiliation.

Political observers say the statement reflects growing concerns over the increasing use of violence and intimidation in Kenyan politics. By publicly condemning these acts, ODM is positioning itself as a defender of democratic freedoms and calling for accountability.
